School board asks judge to hold Sun Sentinel in contempt over school-shooter report
What?! "The Broward County School Board on Monday asked a judge to hold the South Florida and two of its reporters in contempt of court over the publication of a report about the Parkland shooter’s years within the school system."
This is a really troubling decision from ⁦⁩ to sue a media outlet over its own mistake
Sun Sentinel defends right to publish details of redacted court documents in Parkland shooter case. 👏👏👏 Proud to have worked with these women ⁦⁩ ⁦⁩ ⁦
“The school district released the report with nearly 2/3 of its content blacked out. But the district used a method that failed: Anyone could copy and paste the blacked-out report into a Word document to make all the text visible.”
No you can't punish journalists with contempt because you're a school district incapable of properly redacting documents. Do better and get off our lawn.
Oh yeah, the school board also tried to have reporters jailed because the school board sent them improperly redacted documents and the reporters did their job and reported on the documents The evidence of Worst County is adding up
Broward school board asks judge to hold Sun Sentinel in contempt for publishing details of Parkland shooter report that the *school district itself* had accidentally made public
After a school board fails to properly redact a document, it wants to hold reporters in contempt of court for figuring that out and publishing info from it. Astounding.
There's contempt for the law here, but not on the part of the journalists. It's contemptuous for lawyers and judges to claim "student privacy" protects the school disciplinary records of a mass murderer.
