In Opinion In an anonymous Op-Ed, a senior Trump administration official says he and others are working to frustrate the president’s “misguided impulses.”
So basically: Times reporters now must try to unearth the identity of an author that our colleagues in Opinion have sworn to protect with anonymity?
This NYT piece has every oped cliche possible. Makes me think the writer is an oped pro: "looms large" "bitterly divided" "Don't get me wrong." "unsung heroes" "astute observers" "cold comfort" "early whispers" "put it best" "reaching across the aisle"
Hey, Anonymous, maybe time for an update?
This is a finely crafted piece of propaganda - in content, placement, and timing. Be VERY wary of taking any of this at face value. >THREAD<
“It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t,” says a senior Trump administration official
Have no idea who wrote this but there are a number of people in the administration who have expressed similar sentiments — if not all of these.
1/ A few thoughts in light of the anonymous insider resistance op-ed, , and the op-ed on the impotent presidency, .
My 2 cents: If a senior administration official truly believes the president is a threat and is behaving erratically, he/she should tell the public -- on the record. Voters elected Trump -- not a staff trying to save the republic.
Says an anonymous friend, “Man, if anyone ever wanted to invade America, now’s the time.”
Shouldn’t the author of this piece be offering to testify in front of the House Judiciary committee in support of impeachment?
Team Trump was so concerned abt Trump’s fitness that they pondered the 25th Amendment, but opted to avoid a “constitutional crisis.” Now these same unknowns and unelecteds run the country sans oversight. Isn’t that, by definition, a constitutional crisis?
Unbelievable piece in . If this is the extent of the GOP's response to Trump's lack of competence to perform the duties of President, we are in very very deep trouble. My thoughts attached. Attn: ,
Another "profile in courage" published anonymously in the failing by a spineless establishment hack who lacks the courage of their convictions. I can guess who it is...maybe I should share my suspicions? Time to clean up the administration #MAGA
This is one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever read
This is really not how a constitutional government is supposed to work.
Kaboom! Never seen anything quite like this before. Bombshell NYT anonymous op-ed piece from INSIDE Trump White House. A must read.
Great. A bunch of anonymous cowards who love tax cuts and pollution are the one thing standing between the country and the Mad King
Well, that is unusual: NYT publishes a piece by an anonymous "senior official in the Trump administration," identity known to the NYT, who argues that multiple members of the administration are working to prevent a bad president from doing bad things.
If you haven’t read this yet, it’s well worth it, and jaw dropping, even though nothing is meant to be surprising anymore
The short summary of the anonymous White House senior staffer op-ed: We'll serve and enable an incompetent and corrupt racist, as long as we can carry out our extreme right-wing economic agenda.
"Anti-trade" sticks out here in a sentence where it doesn't really belong and makes me wonder if it's someone in Treasury or at least highly concerned with economic policy.
There were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment. But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis. So we will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction until — one way or another — it’s over.
This is the craziest thing you will read all year
Whoa...the NYT just posted an Op-Ed from an anonymous senior White House official: "The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making."
Anonymous NYT oped: “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration; I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.”
What the holy hell is this?
The biggest news out of this is that at least some members of Trump’s own cabinet reportedly considered invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office because he was so dangerously unfit for the job.
1/ A senior Trump Administration official wrote an op-ed for the describing how the author and "many" others within the Trump Administration "frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations" until it ends "one way or another."
Nothing like this. Ever. Before.
BREAKING: The New York Times publishes an anonymously written article from a senior Trump admin official who says they are working with "the resistance" to sabotage Trump.
As you read this op-ed from an anonymous senior administration official stressing that "Americans should know that there are adults in the room," note the institution that isn't mentioned even once: Congress. That's a stunning indictment, IMHO.
This is pretty extraordinary. All I'm going to say is those of us like minded #NeverTrump Republicans KNEW Trump was dangerously unfit & we tried to warn voters. Between #BobWoodward and this op/ed my worst fears are proving correct. 🤦‍♀️
Whoa The NYT "is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed essay. We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure."
President Trump's erratic behavior would be more concerning if it weren’t for unsung heroes in and around the White House who thwart his worst inclinations, writes an anonymous senior administration official.
This is legitimately mind-blowing.
'The root of the problem is the president's amorality.' From a senior official in the Trump administration. >>> I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
1. This is mind blowing. 2. Author sez cabinet didn’t try too go 25th amendment route bc it would be a constitutional crisis. NO: 25th am is the constitutional ANSWER to the dilemma we’re in, not staying in while trying to subvert.
🚨An anonymous Op Ed from a senior White House staffer is a big, big deal🚨
"There are bright spots...effective deregulation, historic tax reform...and more. But these successes have come despite—not because of—the president..." The op-ed is extraordinary proof that some want to benefit from racism without accepting its stigma.
Imo this reads like a plea to conservatives: "We know it's bad, we know we are losing some of you, but we promise we won't let it go completely sideways. Just put up with the corruption a little longer until we get all the things we want."
There’s nothing in this op-ed that Trump officials haven’t anonymously been saying to reporters for more than a year. But it’s still shocking to read it.
This is so obviously Jared.
"The Times today is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed... We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure."
So many of Putin’s “technocratic”, “liberal-leaning” advisors and ministers could have written this kind of op-ed since 2000 and many of them could still write one now. Yet, here we are.
The defense “Don’t worry, we won’t let the President hurt the country” is not comforting.
It's remarkable that there are institutions of the kind that can vouch that this is indeed a senior Trump official, yet keep him or her anonymous. We could be in a world where such a message wouldn't be possible. (The message itself is pretty wild.)
Sounds like the author’s a Reason subscriber; the magazine’s tagline (“free minds, free markets”) crops up as a description of the Republican principles Trump has discarded.
Deeply, suspicious of the word ‘resistance’ I mean deeeeeply - from Beirut with love. via
This. THIS......Pls read. I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
To be clear A Senior White House official has admitted there is a deep state "Resistance" that has infiltrated the Trump Administration and seeks to thwart the presidents agenda Let that sink in
It’s time for Republican leaders on the Hill to stop encouraging a resistance against the people and the man they elected as president. This is the real scandal in a sea of media hysteria.
We're fortunate when civil servants refuse to act illegally, immorally or unethically even if so ordered, but checking the commander-in-chief should not fall to unelected officials. That is expressly the role of Congress and it should do its job.
This is the beginning of the end as it clearly reflects the voice of multiple senior officials. Those who remain silent are now accessories to the demise of our nation’s security.
(1) The New Your Times got fooled again.
I've never seen anything like this.
I have many problems with this piece, but a Senior Trump official says that Donald Trump is so disturbing and unhinged that many members of the cabinet have openly considered having him removed from the office via the 25th Amendment. THIS IS A CRISIS.
This self-aggrandizing oped writer calls him or herself part of the "steady state", while hoping we forget about family separation, for example.
This is quite a read. Alleges there were “whispers” within the Cabinet of using the 25th Amendment to remove the president, but key aides felt it better to let him think he is president.
The NYT has published an op-ed by a senior Trump administration official. They know who the official is but the officials name has not been revealed. Among other things, the official says there were early rumblings about invoking the 25th amendment
Sorry but...what kind of #$&! is this, ? I'm no fan of the President, but how do you publish an anonymous op-ed that furthers the "fake news" narrative and is lame, trite, and literally adds nothing, substantively, to the conversation?? #FAIL
Well, this anonymous op-ed in the New York Times is worth a read, and then it's worth talking about. It's from a top official in the Trump regime, admitting what we all know and what Bob Woodward's book confirmed: he's unfit for office.
lots of ways to read this incredible document but my personal favorite is as a straightforward admission, in the elite mouthpiece of choice, of a coup d'etat by the business wing of the republican party
This is cowardly and there is no good reason to publish it. It tells us nothing we didn’t already know from reporting, but it sets whoever this is up for their inevitable Resistance hero golden parachute book contract.
When the racism is fine but you're worried about fucking the money up.
Fascinating op-ed by a senior US official, staying anonymous: "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration" It's particularly intriguing that he says that there have been whispers within the Cabinet about invoking the 25th Amendment.
I'll believe that Trump is growing into the presidency when his staff stops writing anonymous NYT opeds telling America that he is an authoritarian baby but don't worry the day care center is fully staffed
Wow. Not one mention of the word racism or immigration. Which makes me think, this official might have problems with Trump but he doesn’t have problems with those issues? Aren’t they essential?Charlottesville? Families ripped apart? And NOT mentioned here?
. makes remarks about The New York Times op-ed by anonymous senior admin. official. #NYTimes
Pretty cool the NYTimes has this interactive box where you can ask a question about its vetting process for anonymous Trump oped. I asked one
I wonder what the anonymous writer of this essay is doing tonight.
"Moored to first principles" is a phrase someone from the Federalist Society would say. Language patterns mirror a McMaster column recently posted. This is McMaster ally with Fed Soc connections. Likely also a lawyer.
The personnel around Trump want an orthodox conservative presidency and anything which diverges from that is labeled a “misguided impulse” that the “adults in the room” must thwart
Oh wow. Wow. This is a BFD. This is going to put the White House on DEFCON 1.
“I am part of the resistance inside the Trump administration” - New York Times takes highly unusual step of publishing an anonymous op-ed from a “senior administration official”
NYT OPED: I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration "We work for the president but we have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations."
This is a totally normal article about a totally normal state of affairs involving a totally normal president and there is nothing to see here, so please move on thank you. I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
Clearly someone moved to do this after the death of , but in that spirit they should show the courage of their convictions: put your name to it and quit! I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
This is, legitimately, one of the most insane things I’ve ever read
The undercurrent of this op-ed is the same problem that current and former Trump officials have described privately for years: Hardly anyone who works for him feels any loyalty to him.
An underemphasized point about the self-serving op ed is how wrong it is in the claim that Trump "shows little affinity for ideals espoused by conservatives." On by far their biggest issue, tax cuts for the rich, the president has been their dream. 1/
If this is true, maybe shut the fuck up about it until after the election?
Impressive op-ed. Well argued, essentially correct and still... complicit. I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
"When I went to work for the pussy-grabbing birther gameshow pigman I never guessed people would allow their discourse to be stripped of civility by him"
If the European Union wants to speak to the United States, who does it call?
Always newspaper of power, publishes anonymous op-ed making unsubstantiated claims of resistance while championing classic right-wing agenda. This should not have been anonymous op-ed but start of investigative report on dubious claims.
The anonymous Op-Ed writer can't have it both ways. The senior official can't both "want the administration to succeed" and view the president as "detrimental to the health of the republic." Resign now and go public. It's your last chance
In extraordinary anonymous op-ed, sr admin official calls Trump amoral, misguided, erratic. Says many sr officials are "working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda & his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them"
The more I read this the more angry I am. At Russia. At anyone who is responsible for this ghastly mess. And now, most of all, whoever wrote this goddamn thing. It doesn't make sense. It's not smart. It's cowardly. It's risky. It's stupid.
The anonymous resistance
Holding up my jaw. An anonymous insider at the White House spills the beans to ⁦⁩ on how the administration are trying to stop a “half-baked, ill-informed..reckless” Trump tearing up America’s democracy.
Many of the senior officials in Trump's own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them.
Absolutely explosive: the ⁦⁩ today is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed essay. We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration
Well, this is different. via
I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration . just wow
So looks like the author is a "senior," but not a "top," official? ("a top official complained to me recently...")
Not super impressed by anonymous' piece in . Felt self-serving and self-justifying. I've heard this from lots of GOPers who won't oppose Trump. Follow the lead of and who didn't sell out for the tax cuts and de-reg.
scoop: president how seems
Holy hell. "Many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office."
L’administration Trump a atteint un nouveau niveau d’incroyabilité I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration via
This person can go fuck themselves. You work for Trump, you are either a fascist or are enabling fascism. You want to be a Republican who resists Trump, you have a model. His name is John Dean.
Even in the most bizarre administration ever, this is pretty extraordinary. I can’t imagine anything remotely like this happening in any other administration of my lifetime.
Google searches for "25th Amendment" skyrocketing on news that Trump admin officials briefly considered invoking the provision to remove POTUS from office
I hope Trump finds this person and fires him/her quickly
The voice of the "Steady State" speaks. If it is what it represents itself to be, this oped is one of the most bizarre and damning statements I've ever ever seen attacking any president.
We've been using the phrase "parallel administration" to describe the split between what Trump says and his own WH says and does. The anonymous SAO calls it the "two-track presidency."
Stunning oped by senior #Trump administration official who calls president "amoral," "reckless," w/ preference for dictators as allies. Describes "resistance" within White House to contain damage. Yowza.
Given the circumstances, I'm glad that unelected officials are preventing an incompetent and erratic President from doing what he wants. But it's not a sustainable system.
"The Times today is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed essay. . . We believe publishing this essay anonymously is the only way to deliver an important perspective to our readers."
There is also a resistance to President Trump on the right. And it is operating inside the White House, writes an anonymous senior administration official.
In an administration where four or five top officials have already had to deny calling Trump an "idiot" or "fucking moron," the author of this op-ed has much more cover than most leakers. It really could be one of at least 20 people.
This is going to drive some people over the edge.
The worst bit about this op-ed is where the author clearly intimates "we're trying our best to stop the end of the world, but we stop short of actually rebelling because we still really like tax cuts and depriving poor people of healthcare."
Nothing here is new, but wow does it lay bare Trump's own staff's contempt for him. Anonymous ought to resign & explain why. Propping Trump up while undermining him behind the scenes hasn't avoided a constitutional crisis; it's guaranteed one.
Oh WOW. publishes **explosive** OpEd from senior #Trump official: - "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the #Trump Administration.”
I’ll believe that Trump is growing into the presidency when his staff stops talking about him like a toddler.
you are welcome for creating this thread of transit oriented metaphors from The Op-Ed. 👇🏽👇🏽1/
I’d love for this to move the needle but (1) it’s essentially an extended-play version of every “senior official” quote about Trump and (2) the author could be one of 200 people.
Anonymous op-ed "I Am Part of the Resistance" Trump "was reluctant to expel so many of Mr Putin’s spies...But his national security team knew better...This isn’t the work of the so-called deep state. It’s the work of the steady state"
It’s not the deep state, it’s the steady state.
Interrupting my Kavanaugh livetweets to take note of this, which is extraordinary by any measure.
Anyone else wondering where is that anonymous NYT op-ed writer tonight? The senior administration official who said: Don’t worry Americans, we’re at the controls of a “steady state."
An op-ed perfectly calculated to make Trump’s head explode: How members of his own team are clandestinely working to stop him.
Trump says Sessions isn't in control of DoJ, but nobody there is writing stuff like this.
cannot help but think that writing an op-ed about internally undermining the president uh, *damages* the ability to internally undermine the president
Anonymous oped in NYT—I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
This is horse-hockey. The writer of this op-ed should resign and say it all publicly. Publishing it anonymously and behaving the way the op-ed describes does the country and the president no favors.
Extra! Extra! Lawful evil bastard tries to rein in chaotic evil bastard! Read all about it!
It's bizarre that senior GOP people around Trump know he's dangerously unstable but don't take steps to get rid of him. It's like Brexit - everyone seems to know it's a terrible idea but the political will isn't there to do something about it
An absolutely extraordinary and surely unprecedented essay in American politics. I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
Been busy, so just getting to the NYT anonymous op-ed. So it's sort of a distillation of the Woodward book, yes? Tough call for an editor to publish an anonymous op-ed, but we have to assume the NYT wouldn't do it unless person is really "senior." I hope.
Is this the equivalent of the McCarthy hearings for-shame moment for the GOP and the nation?
This is extraordinary. A huge wake up call from inside the WH.
I’ll believe that Trump is growing into the presidency when his staff stops talking about him like a toddler.
I’ll believe that Trump is growing into the presidency when his staff stops talking about him like a toddler.
In my semiprofessional judgment, this is a really bad call by the New York Times.
How different is this from Yes Minister, albeit with a self-righteous McCain/Ryan gloss?
So you're saying this guy has a shot at destroying the Republic but don't worry because his own administration is working against him and, hey, how about those tax cuts?
These two things occupy a human brain simultaneously: "The root of the problem is the president’s amorality" and "We want the administration to succeed"
So what happens if the Washington bureau uncovers the identity of a contributor that the op-ed page kept secret? Did anyone think this through?
To be clear--if you place policy goals above core democratic values, then you are, by definition, not putting country first.
"Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president."
The call is coming from inside the house
This Trump resistance op-ed sounds like it is written by someone looking to be forgiven in the event the ship of state sinks
Well, this is something new in American history. Any relief it provides, though, is temporary. The situation it describes it completely terrifying, and it's not going to get better
Extraordinary. publishes anonymous op-ed by "a senior official in the Trump administration" trying to "preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office."
"The Times today is taking the rare step of publishing an anonymous Op-Ed essay. We have done so at the request of the author, a senior official in the Trump administration whose identity is known to us and whose job would be jeopardized by its disclosure"
I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
"We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t.”
OK buddy you lost me at "We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous" you're literally deregulating important federal safety regulations
A rare anonymous NYT oped.
The Deep State is coming from *INSIDE* The White House.
And here we are: "Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president. But no one wanted to precipitate a constitutional crisis."
Assuming the author really is who he/she claims to be, I am grateful to her/him for the quiet patriotism and "steady state" effort to manage the menace I believe President Trump poses to the U.S. and the world.
Trump's overreacting to Anonymous too! Like Woodward's book it doesn't seem la big deal (agree w/ ). Little that's new. Trump's style is "impetuous, adversarial" etc. Duh. It's a paint-by-numbers Trump critique anyone could have written.
Wow, wow, and wow ... I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
It really is an incredible piece.

"Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president."
This is 100% bullshit.
Hot take on this is that the person thinks s/he is a hero but actually is a coward. Step up, testify before congress, and get this lunatic out of the oval office. It's worth giving up your White House parking pass.
Wow, the publishes an ANONYMOUS opinion piece from someone who works in the White House. I have not seen this before.
I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration I had hoped this was the case, that there were adults in the room; so on the one hand I’m relieved, but on the other hand, I feel sick.

‘I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations’—anonymous senior official in Trump’s administration writes a fascinating op-ed in ⁦
The amazing part of the anonymous White House staffer op-ed: this person almost certainly thinks he will be applauded for doing a good thing. Wrong! The Trump true believers will think him a Judas, and the Resistance will call him a collaborator.

“It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t”. Wow. Who needs the movies? #whitehouse #trump
"We want the admin to succeed & think many of its policies have already made America safer & more prosperous. But we believe our first duty is to this country, & the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic."
Everything is dumb and so is the NYT’s. The author is trying to play like he’s part of the resistance by supporting 45’s policies is a thirsty attempt for work post-45
"To be clear, ours is not the popular 'resistance' of the left." INDEED.
Holy crap — I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration via
wish some senior official close to XJP would writing something like this
Wow. So this happened/is happening?
We can remedy this outrageous situation. We can remove a reckless and dangerous president. What are we waiting for?
No pat on the back to the author because: 1. You are enabling a mentally ill President to advance your own agenda; 2. You were not elected, so your taking over is a coup; and 3. You are a coward for not going on record and asking that Trump be removed.
This is stunning, unprecedented and norm breaking, as is everything in the Trump era
This is unusual. A 'senior official' in the Trump administration writes an anonymous NYT op-ed about his efforts to resist and thwart the president: 'I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration.'
If this is true, is the goal of this op-ed to trigger a massive purge of those restraining Trump? Because that’s what will happen. Idiocy.
Deep state is a conspiracy theory, oh and by the way here's our latest column by a staffer who admits they are sabotaging Trump from within.
I don’t remember the last time I saw an anonymous OpEd in the New York Times. And this one is extraordinary
The anonymous op-ed coming on the heels of the Woodward book and all the tweets will reinforce questions around the world as to what is going on in the US and whether it can be relied on for the foreseeable future to act in a recognizable dependable manner
Let's be clear: this person is NOT part of the resistance. They are facilitating and implementing Trump's presidency, no matter what they may tell themselves.
I said in July 2017 in my short tenure ⁦⁩ that there were forces inside the building that were “saving the country” from imagine the ego of that and the cowardice anonymity.

As the never-Trumpers might say, “This is not normal.”
“Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president.” I argue that it’s time to invoke 25th Amend:
"many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations." DEEP STATE IS NOT REAL IT'S A CONSPIRACY THEORY
I have never seen anything like this for a sitting President, written by someone in the administration who supports much of its agenda. Astounding, and turns both frightening and comforting.
Can't welcome you to the resistance, anonymous senior official. "Effective deregulation" (polluting our air and water, accelerating climate change) and "historic tax reform" (exploding debt, worsening income inequality) are two big things we're resisting.
This is a bizarre inclusion in the op-ed. What if the "top official" discussed here remembers who he said this to?
I don’t know if to see this as deeply disturbing or highly reassuring.
What anonymous "senior official" would quote an anonymous "a top official" in their own oped? Put me in the "not impressed" column for now. Would have been way more powerful with a byline: "I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration"
Whatever one’s political leanings, this has to be one of the strangest political op-eds ever written.
1. wow 2. i would be way too paranoid someone would ID my writing style to ever go through with something like this

extraordinary. i wonder how senior this official really is
The longest background quote in American history
All of this rings true, but the author does not advance the cause of the “resistance inside” by writing about it publicly. It reads more like an attempt to salvage his or her personal reputation at some future moment, or to salve a guilty mind.
An example of anonymity used as a tool, by a publication that often criticizes websites with anonymity as a core principle.
There are hints, but this piece doesn't answer the pretty fundamental question of whether its author is a political appointee or career official
On the one hand, wow On the other hand, nothing we haven't heard before On the other hand, it's confirmation that 25th amendment came up On the other hand, real bravery would be saying this publicly -- or resigning On the other hand, wow

Trump: you think he's good? He's actually bad. But me, I'm good. In summary, I am good.
In all seriousness, channeling my grandmother: Jesus Mary and Joseph
Just think about this sentence from a senior Trump administration official: "Given the instability many witnessed, there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president."
Stop what you’re doing and read this
Left: Jon Huntsman op-ed, July 21. Right: Anonymous senior administration official op-ed, Sept. 5.
The Resistance inside Trump’s WH: “I have vowed to thwart parts of Trump’s agenda & his worst inclinations.” Cabinet members whispered about invoking the 25th Amendment to remove POTUS, but key aides felt it better to let him think he is president.
My response to this author: GO FUCK YOURSELF. You see the rails coming off, and you're laying the groundwork for the "I was working against this on the inside" defense for you and your friends.
I don't think this op-Ed will be conducive to the effort to control Trump's worst instincts
Re-read this now. Still wow.
Wow. What a time in American politics. NYT runs an Anonymous comment for a senior Trump official "working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations"
A remarkable op-ed. The new “Deep Throat.” Let the speculations begin. (It can’t be Fred Fielding this time. He’s not in the Administration.)
"The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making."
Remarkable op-ed from a senior official in the Trump administration
This is bullshit. This senior Trump official is not "resisting" anything. They're begging Congress to leave their dotard boss in power
This mofo actively collaborates with a White House that puts migrant toddlers in concentration camps in order give corporations tax breaks and further enrich defense contractors but has the gall to call Trump "amoral"
"Successes have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective."
This op-ed has more than 6.1 million page views so far. It's been online for less than 10 hours. I've never seen that happen before. #NYTimesOped
Read this anonymous op-ed from a senior Trump administration official. Extraordinary.
The NY Times just published an anonymous article attacking Trump — somehow I don’t think they’d publish this when Obama was POTUS
This is bonkers
I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration // is this supposed to be comforting? Anonymous people choosing to do what they feel is right lacks a certain accountability and transparency.
Honestly, how are political scientists supposed to get any work done during this dumpster fire?
There are likely many things that this individual & I might disagree upon. Putting our country first is not one of them. I’m grateful there are lucid, stable people in the inner circle of this administration and that they’re willing to temper bad impulses.
The author either wants a west wing purge or is not clever enough to recognise that that's an inevitability after this?
this bothers me
Anonymous official in : "We believe our 1st duty is to this country & the president [acts] in a manner detrimental 2 the health of our republic...many #Trump appointees vow 2 do what we can 2 thwart #Trump’s more misguided impulses."
There is a quiet resistance within the administration of people choosing to put country first. But the real difference will be made by everyday citizens rising above politics, reaching across the aisle & shedding labels in favor of a single one: Americans.
Nothing to see here. "...there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would start a complex process for removing the president."
ha ha ha ha this is gonna be great ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Dear Anon. W.H. Official -- Your unelected, shadow government which has decided to sidestep the 25th Amendment is no comfort to me. Signed, Your fellow American
Who needs Bob Woodward, WH staff is starting to tell it all: I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
I need to grind up and snort this op-ed in rails.
Now I’m really panicking. Unelected officials, serving at the whim of an erratic leader, are in charge of providing the oversight that Congress refuses to exercise. God have mercy on us!
True Patriots. “Many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations...I would know. I am one of them.”
The only plausible explanation is that the author is trying to precipitate a crisis. This is fighting the unconstitutional with the unconstitutional. The Constitution has in it the mechanism for dealing with Mr. Trump. What's in this oped is not it.
“The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making.” If problem (indeed crisis) is personality, how does this help?
I am against Trump even though I am doing my best to promote the policies that elected him. I’d resign but, you know, deregulation, judges, tax cuts, deportations, endless war.
"Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won't. The result is a two-track presidency."
"We know our boss is unfit for duty, and we know there's a Constitutional process for correcting it. But we think following the Constitution will create a Constitutional crisis, so instead we're undermining our government from within. You're welcome!"
Trump 'expressed frustration that the United States continued to impose sanctions on [Russia] for its malign behavior.'
This is remarkable.

Who thinks it could be Mike Pompeo? I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
This is astonishing.
Intriguing line about 'effective deregulation'. Basically says 'we think Trump is mad and dangerous and have launched a soft coup against him, but we can't rock the boat too much cos we don't want to risk losing the new found freedom to pollute rivers'
Whoever wrote this is into centrism & civility: "We have ... allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility ... break free of the tribalism trap ... country first ... shed the labels"
“Meetings with him veer off topic and off the rails, he engages in repetitive rants, and his impulsiveness results in half-baked, ill-informed and occasionally reckless decisions that have to be walked back.” The 25 Amend was designed to deal with this.
Nice, but this is not the way our government should have to work. I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
An administration run by unelected appointees is no more a democracy than one run by a tyrant. This is a genuine crisis.
Note: This essay originally appeared as a response on Quora.
“He engages in repetitive rants”. Is there anybody here who doesn’t?
“It may be cold comfort...”? I’d say so. I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
This is AMAZING. MUST read! The 25th Amendment seems appropriate.
"We've traced the op-ed. It's coming from inside the [White] House!"
The bigger concern is not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what we as a nation have allowed him to do to us. We have sunk low with him and allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility.
The writer is a senior official in the Trump administration.
'All Americans should heed the words of and break free of the tribalism trap, with the high aim of uniting through our shared values and love of this great nation.'
Ah, whoa..... this anonymous NYT oped by a senior Trump admin official: I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
Bloody HELL. Public service.
Note the use of "free minds, free markets," which is 's tagline

"The root of the problem is the president’s amorality."
Wow. NYT prints anonymous op-ed by a "senior administration official" that acknowledges Trump is unfit and justifies himself or herself by saying they're containing his worst impulses.
Damn straight. A senior Trump official pens a rare anonymous op-ed. God bless the insiders who venture to tell the truth. "Truth will come to light; murder cannot be hid long; a man's son may, but at the length truth will out."
"I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration"
Well, this seems kind of grotesque six ways to Sunday and beyond.
Stigmergy for #nevertrump #nevertrump is surging as a weaponized network (apart from the #resistance -- see last month GG Briefs). We may see a counter-attack using clearances, to dive deep into the nat-sec bureaucracy to root out #nevertrump, next.
If you are in the Trump administration but want a job in academia after you leave you write an anonymous NYT Op-Ed against Trump that you can take credit for when you try to join Harvard's faculty.

‘The bigger concern is not what Mr. Trump has done to the presidency but rather what we as a nation have allowed him to do to us. We have sunk low with him and allowed our discourse to be stripped of civility...’
Our government is under a load and stress test.
Public servants like this person are true heros putting country ahead of person. Thank you! ⁦
I'm torn between admiration for the anonymous author, and niggling doubts about the anti-democratic nature of what he (or she!) is doing. America elected Trump. Do we deserve to be protected from his worst impulses?
I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
Desperate Trump may soon do outrageous things to cover up crimes: eg Fire Mueller/Start a war Only 3 Antidotes 1)Mass resignation by White House staff detailing his amorality. 2)Massive Democrat victory #2018Midterms 3)GOP Congress deserts his sinking ship
The author of this op-ed (if real) should be immediately and permanently imprisoned for treason. And the Times should absolutely not be permitted to hide behind the first amendment when a staffer is undermining national security like this!

I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
Pretty much anybody else in any other job would’ve been fired by now, but here we are debating if it worth invoking the 25th because it is “a complex process”.
While I appreciate the sentiment, it’s not particularly comforting. Micro-managing cancer is a high risk strategy.
Ha, the author who thinks s/he is so brave. Yet s/he has sold out democracy for a tax cut. Call me crazy but I am not especially comforted by the real politik of a staff that now must unconstitutionally steal power from a deranged, unfit president.
"The president is nuts, but don't worry we are reining him in!" Oh, well, I feel better now.
Holy moly. A member of the Trump admin working against the President's crazier inclinations, calls him patently amoral person. #NoSurprise, yet #Wow.
Well this can't be Rick Perry-- it all seems to be spelled correctly and the grammar is sufficient
Any chance this is a GOP plant to say: "hey folks, we know this looks like a chaotic mess but don't worry, we got this, so feel free to vote republican at the midterms"?
"We believe our first duty is to this country" is such cynical garbage. Covering up for an incompetent president so you can advance your political agenda is the exact opposite of that
wow really impressed by Ivanka's words here.

Well isn’t this just a dandy. It appears that the loons spouting a conspiracy theory of a shadow state were right. Except for one small thing. It isn’t the left running a shadow government, it’s the President’s very own cabinet and party.

I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration
In any other functioning democracy, the idea that an unelected cadre is running a shadow government and subverting the will of the elected executive to pursue their idea of the nation's agenda would be considered treasonous or a coup.

If half of this is true, some members of the White House are providing more of a check against the executive branch than Congress
My brain can't quite compute how crazy this is - on so many levels. 🤔
When“anonymous”says many of Trump’s “policies have already made America safer & more prosperous,”such as“effective deregulation, historic tax reform,a more robust military,”he sounds like those who abhor Trump’s immorality & corruption but love his policies.
