Our new paper in Translational Psychiatry consistently shows a polygenic p factor for major psychiatric disorders using four genetic methods: family design, GCTA-GREML, LDSC, polygenic scores
Our paper "A polygenic p factor for major psychiatric disorders" is out in Translational Psychiatry - excellent work !
Interesting new research on the genetic underpinnings of psychiatric disorders: The same genes that predispose people to one disorder also predispose them to others (left), and certain genes increase the risk of all the major psychiatric disorders (right).
The p factor: Among 7k individuals, a common genetic factor of psychopathology emerged, explaining 20-60% of variance. Findings suggest DNA variants increase risk for multiple psychiatric disorders. Schizophrenia, Bipolar, & Depression loaded most highly.
