After finding only 21% of sources quoted are women, Financial Times develops automated tool to warn if articles quote too many men. Smart move to nudge journalists to strive to ensure news reflect diverse societies (Someone do one for academics please?)
This doesn’t go far enough. I’d rather quote 10 women who know nothing at all than 1 male “expert”.
Amazing - has a new bot that automatically warns journalists if their articles quote too many men in an attempt to force writers to look for expert women to include in their pieces. The bot was created b/c only 21% of people quoted in were women
Excellent idea, and something all of us in the media ought always to have in mind: Financial Times tool warns if articles quote too many men

FT found that only 21% of people quoted in the FT were women, prompting the development of a bot that uses pronouns and analysis of first names to determine whether a source is male or a female. This is such a great story
v depressing that a bot is needed but this is still a great idea
The Financial Times is using a bot to warn its journalists if there are too many male voices in an article, as it tries to attract more female readers ( / The Guardian)
This is so smart, so 💯
