What It's Like to Detox in Jail
The small, communal toilet was in the corner of the pod, enclosed by a short stall that did nothing to keep the smell of diarrhea, vomit, and blood from overtaking the unit.
Horrifically cruel to make people suffer thru untreated opioid withdrawal- not to mention potentially deadly. Not offering medication treatment for addiction during incarceration also increases risk of death after release. Thanks

No need for this to ever happen w/o medical support. A methadone or bupe taper easy & dramatically reduces misery. Conversion to maintenance if interested & titration to therapeutic dose a/w 75% ⬇️ in post-release mortality. Enough w/ forced withdrawal.
