Plan U proposal for a funder preprint mandate [please RT]
If you are interested in universal, free access to research, consider Plan U: . Funders mandate preprints. Simple and swift. Lower cost than other avenues. Builds on growing momentum of preprint servers. And already operated by one funder .
The simplest, fastest way for funders to provide immediate free access to research they fund is to require deposition in preprint servers or platforms, and for journals, societies and other players to focus on peer review, assessment and curation. #PlanU
Now this is a Plan I can get behind Mandating preprints to make all research open access. Simple. From HT
The preprint version is here: . Thanks to Andrew and his team for making it available. The value of mandating preprints in achieving funders’ goals of universal access to research is argued here: . Your comments would be welcome
help, please: can anyone tell me more about - for example, who is behind it? sounds good, but I'd like my details... #preprints

Don’t get me wrong: I think overlay journals are great and could be the future (implicit in ). But we need to be clear what the differences are when comparing costs 2/2
McNutt: Reply to Kiley and Smits: Meeting Plan S’s goal of maximizing access to research PlanU - to save publishers' profit margins?
It also means that the very notion of (overlay) journals will involve and should not be constrained by pre-conceived notions of what journals are now. This is implicit in 3/n
Plan U: A proposal to achieve universal access to scientific and medical research via funder #preprint mandates
PlanS should arguably be shifted to be more like PlanU - mandate preprints , which would help put scholars in a better position to use overlay journals. Overlay journals like and are beautiful things.
I'm a journalist writing about for : I'm trying to find out more about this interesting idea. you seem to have come up with the name, are you also behind the Web site? thanks for your help.
Should biomed researchers be *required* by funders to post #preprints? 'Plan U' from , & ( ) would: . Before you scoff: already does.
