W.Va. House approves controversial water quality rules bill
Bluefield Daily Telegraph
CHARLESTON — The West Virginia House of Delegates on Tuesday passed a rules bill that includes a provision opposed by advocates for clean water.
Oh my god. West Virginia lawmakers have sided with
and agreed NOT to implement stricter water standards recommended by the Department of Environmental Protection. Why? LOOK AT THIS REASONING.
This is almost comical, if it wouldn't be in fact quite tragic. West Virgina manufacturers (incl DuPont) request to tolerate higher chemical loads in waters bc "Virginians are heavier and drink less water". Instead of just laughing, lawmakers accept.
This is wrong. The West Virginia Manufacturers Association is arguing for legal water pollution levels to be increased bc WV residents are fatter & drink less water, so their logic follows, it's OK to put more cancer-causing chemicals in the water. Really.
