A Dead Baby Was Found in a Ditch in 1981. DNA Helped Charge the Mother With Murder.
A cold case in Sioux Falls, S.D., was given new impetus after detectives employed DNA technology and genealogy data.
DNA testing was used to track down the mother of an abandoned baby in South Dakota who had been unidentified since 1981. She faces murder charges.
“The father of the baby was not aware of the pregnancy and has not been charged, the affidavit said.” But who was he? Apparently no one she could ask for help when she was “young and stupid.”
