Researchers placed feather lice onto differently colored pigeons and left them there for FOUR YEARS (approx. 60 generations). The parasites changed color to better blend in. Such a great example of evolution in action.
Had this come out 160 years ago, it would have been the perfect Darwinbait. It has islands, evolution, and pigeons. Just missing some barnacles tbh.
Congrats to Sarah Bush and colleagues , Clayton... Univ. of Utah researchers placed feather-eating lice onto differently colored birds. After years, the insects blend in among their hosts’ plumage— evolution in action, reports .
