SCOOP , just hired as Bernie Sanders' speechwriter and senior adviser, has been quietly writing speeches and advising him for months without disclosing it but while bashing pretty much every candidate in the field
Bernie Sanders' newest speechwriter deleted 20,000 tweets after being contacted by about his months of secret work as a Sanders adviser while at the same time using his Guardian column to savage Sanders' Democratic opponents.
David Sirota had been working unofficially for Sanders while savaging the other Democratic candidates on Twitter, writes . This, despite Sanders's pledge of civility toward other Democrats

Wow, David Sirota has been secretly advising the Sanders campaign for months while not disclosing it in his columns
"Sirota did not respond to the email but deleted more than 20,000 tweets."
'David Sirota in the Guardian has been trashing most of Bernie Sanders's opponents without disclosing his work with Sanders' in The Atlantic. This is totally untrue. Once David was approached by Sanders he wrote nothing else for us.
Setting aside Sirota's merits, this is...pretty unethical on both his part and the campaign's
"...after being contacted for a second time by The Atlantic with a list of specific questions about his undisclosed work for Sanders, Sirota did not respond to the email but deleted more than 20,000 tweets. He left fewer than 200 online"
“He did not respond when asked if it was a coincidence that the tweets were deleted hours after I contacted him and the morning before he was announced as a Sanders employee.”
If you're advising a political candidate & writing speeches, it's unethical to cover their campaigns or their opponents as a journalist. Disclosure is insufficient; a reporter should recuse from the entire beat with that level of conflict.
"Sirota’s hiring as a senior adviser and speechwriter was announced by the Sanders campaign on Tuesday morning after The Atlantic contacted the campaign and inquired ab. the undisclosed role Sirota held while attacking other Democrats." scoop
After the relentless booing, based on a conspiracy theory promoted by Russia, at the DNC, led to Trump winning in 2016, I hoped candidates realize that you can’t sacrifice the general to win the primary. Unfortunately, it seems the lesson wasn’t learned.
You mean this one - I hadn’t read it until you mentioned it. But it seems pretty buttoned up on the facts. Why don’t you list what’s inaccurate about it rather than innuendo?
"Sirota said he hadn’t been able to respond to my initial inquiries because he’d been caring for his sick child. He did post a photo on Twitter of himself bowling on Monday evening, wearing a turkey hat." -- Read the story from
This is a very bad story for Bernie Sanders ... and what makes it such a head-scratcher is that even after Sirota’s tirades against other Democrats Sanders STILL hired him to be his speechwriter
The cover-up is worse than the crime.
"Among the few people in the 2020 conversation whom he said positive things about: Jay Inslee and Bill de Blasio. Both have appeared on his podcast."
"Since December, David Sirota has, on Twitter, on his own website, and in columns in The Guardian, been trashing most of Sanders’s Democratic opponents—all without disclosing his work with Sanders"
