NEW: Anita Hill says she is unsatisfied with her talk with Joe Biden and won’t call it an apology
NEWS: Anita Hill told me yesterday that Joe Biden called her a few weeks ago, but she was left feeling dissatisfied and doesn't feel he has taken full responsibility. "I cannot be satisfied by simply saying I’m sorry for what happened to you." w/
Stating obvious here: Biden had 28 years to say something. Called weeks before his presidential launch
1. Ooof, Joe Biden called Anita Hill earlier this month to apologize to her. But in an interview with the NYT, Professor Hill says "she left the conversation feeling deeply unsatisfied and declined to characterize his words to her as an apology."
"But Ms. Hill, in an interview Wednesday, said she left the conversation feeling deeply unsatisfied and declined to characterize his words to her as an apology."
This headline is deeply misleading. It suggests Biden apologized. It appears he did not. Instead, he said he was sorry “for what happened”, a passive construction removing his own responsibility.
Anita Hill on her convo with Joe Biden: “I cannot be satisfied by simply saying I’m sorry for what happened to you. I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose."
Anita Hill said she felt deeply unsatisfied with the conversation she had with Joe Biden this month and declined to characterize his words to her as an apology. She said she is not convinced that he truly accepts the harm he caused her and other women.
Anita Hill: "He needs to give an apology to the other women and to the American public because we know now how deeply disappointed Americans around the country were about what they saw. And not just women."
4. Who told Biden it was a good idea to "apologize" weeks before running and to share the news on the day of the announcement? One of the biggest rules when it comes to apologies is to never do it when you need something...it just looks disingenuous.
2. Professor Hill tells the NYT that "she is not convinced that Mr. Biden truly accepts the harm he caused her and other women who suffered sexual harassment and gender violence."
"'The focus on apology to me is one thing,' she said. 'But he needs to give an apology to the other women and to the American public because we know now how deeply disappointed Americans around the country were about what they saw. And not just women.'"
Wow. Even Biden’s camp aren’t saying he apologized to Anita Hill for his own actions: “He shared with her directly his regret for what she endured.”
Gentlemen, let me set this straight. “I am sorry for what you endured” is not anywhere close to “I am sorry for what I did.” via ⁦
"I cannot be satisfied by simply saying I’m sorry for what happened to you. I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose,..." #AnitaHill
Anita Hill tells #Biden his 28-years-late apology isn’t enough: “I cannot be satisfied by simply saying I’m sorry for what happened to you. I will be satisfied when I know there is real change & real accountability & real purpose.”
Too little, too late. Way too late. An apology that seems designed to do no more than smooth a pathway to the nomination. Anita Hill deserves more. Women deserve more.
Big mistake, Joe. You had nothing to apologize to her for. Now if you’d like to say “I’m sorry” to Clarence Thomas, he’d probably accept that.
“Hill…left the convo feeling deeply unsatisfied & declined to characterize his words to her as an apology. She said she is not convinced that Mr. Biden truly accepts the harm he caused her & other women who suffered sexual harassment and gender violence.”
His handling of Anita Hill and the Clarence Thomas nomination was always going to be among Biden's biggest hurdles as a presidential candidate.
Would Biden have called if he weren’t running for President?
"Ms. Hill, in an interview Wednesday, said she left the conversation feeling deeply unsatisfied and declined to characterize his words to her as an apology."
Honestly, good for Hill for not letting Biden ease out of this painlessly with a half-ass quasi-apology.
Hey dude: Mark Zuckerberg says sorry weekly, so put forth a definitive apology to her and not for “what she endured” and then an Elizabeth Warren level policy on the subject: Joe Biden Expresses Regret to Anita Hill, but She Says ‘I’m Sorry’ Is Not Enough

Also, Joe Biden once attended a hockey match at which Kate Smith's "God Bless America" was played. "Joe Biden Expresses Regret to Anita Hill, but She Says ‘I’m Sorry’ Is Not Enough"
Biden: "When [Anita Hill] appeared before the committee, she faced people who didn't know what it was all about." I have a feeling that the problem was that they knew only too well, at first hand, what it was about.
I watched the Anita Hill hearings, live because I was in college at the time. It was like watching a slow-motion train-wreck of women’s rights right before my eyes.
“I cannot be satisfied by simply saying, ‘I’m sorry for what happened to you.' I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose.”
Why is it so hard for Joe to actually, finally, 23 years too late, say he's sorry for what he did to Anita Hill (and, as a byproduct, Christine Blasey, women, the supreme court, and America)?
#BidenFumblesOnFirstPlay and with his calculated strategic and contrived apology immediately reminds us of one of his most profound historic failures. #AnitaHill #ClarenceThomas
