This is chilling. Trump and John Bolton are openly laying the groundwork for another war. The only thing we’re relying on to prevent this is Congressional authority and Donald Trump’s sanity. We can’t rely on the latter, so we need to move on the former.
NO WAR WITH IRAN! This would be an unmitigated disaster. We must stop Trump and his national security advisor, John Bolton—someone who likes endless wars.
John Bolton desperately wants war with Iran. He's famous for cooking intelligence. This is deadly serious. Congress should make clear that there is no authorization.
White House reviews military plans against Iran -- including sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East -- in echoes of Iraq war
“...officials said they believed the most likely cause of a conflict will follow a provocative act, or outright attack, by the Revolutionary Guards’ navy.” 72 hrs later 6 ships attacked in UAE? Nance’s Law: “Coincidence takes a lot of planning.”
I oversaw Iran policy and planning at the Pentagon from 2009-2011, at the height of concerns over Iran’s nuclear progress, and no plausible contingency except invasion and regime change would require sending 120,000 US forces to the Middle East.
John Bolton’s SuperPAC was the initial Cambridge Analytica test client using the Kogan/Chancellor illicit Facebook data harvest. It was reportedly used for TAA (target audience analysis) to find pro-war voters. And here we are.
A sign of how worried officials are about Bolton’s war plans: “More than a half-dozen American national security officials who have been briefed on details of the updated plans agreed to discuss them with The New York Times on the condition of anonymity.”
The White House is reviewing military plans against Iran — including sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East — in echoes of the Iraq war
Another Mideast war? To what end? Without Congressional approval? Checks and balances? This is truly the Imperial Presidency, without a plan or a rudder.

I will discuss this with Brian Williams tonight ⁦⁩ ⁦⁩. If you are worried about a new war in the Middle East, you are in good company. In fact, you are probably not worried enough.
“Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said.”
NYT: Last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Shanahan presented a military plan that “envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said.”
This is what learning nothing looks like.
At request of John Bolton, “Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons”
"The revisions were ordered by hard-liners led by John R. Bolton, Mr. Trump’s national security adviser. It does not call for a land invasion of Iran, which would require vastly more troops, officials said"
Echoes of Iraq: WH orders options to send up to 150,000 troops to the Middle East to counter Iran. Important story from ⁦⁩ & ⁦
The sequel no one wants
Mind blowing to think of the “Trump the dove, Hillary the hawk” types - including some on the left - who failed to see this coming. via
I spoke to yesterday on my show - as of 6 pm eastern, the administration had not briefed all of House Armed Services Committee on what motivated the US deployments said to be a response to Iran.
Pay attention to this, all. 👇🏻 "Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons..."
To me, this "120,000 troops to Iran" story looks like the Pentagon trying to scare Trump into not attacking, by publicizing the most extreme option and playing off his Iraq war opposition
Obviously this is alarming, especially with Bolton and Pompeo at the helm and Bibi in the mix. But part of me cynically wonders whether this is like the North Korea head fake.
C'mon on - simply devising military plans, in no way, provides evidence of the nature of a foreign threat. Iran is not a dangerous threat to America.
John Bolton really, really wants a war with Iran
Of all of Trump's terrible appointees, John Bolton has always worried me the most. He's strategic, has a black and white view of the world, thinks he's the good guy, and is convinced that ends justify means.
White House Reviews Military Plans Against Iran, in Echoes of Iraq War - The New York Times Republicans love war.
News item: 120K US troops could be dispatched to the MidEast to confront #Iran. comment: "Deploying such a robust air, land & naval force would give Tehran more targets to strike." Me: This means that D-Day's 1.5mn troops was a calamitous error.
The previous version of the Pentagon’s war plan included a classified subset code-named Nitro Zeus, a cyberoperation that called for unplugging Iran’s major cities, it power grid and its military. ... to paralyze Iran in the opening hours of any conflict
