Only 12 percent of Millennials call themselves consistently conservative or mostly conservative. This is the most important statistic in American politics right now.
"The generation gap is even more powerful when it comes to Republicans. To put it bluntly, young adults hate them." on The Coming G.O.P. Apocalypse
David Brooks highlights key facts: 67% of voters under 30 voted for Dems & 32% for GOP in 2018 election; 59% of Millennials are Ds or lean D; 32% GOP or lean R; 57% of Millennials say they are liberal & 12% conservative. The Coming G.O.P. Apocalypse
But the coalition that conservative populism requires to govern, and last, cannot be build by equalling Mitt Romney's share of the minority vote. It just can't. You don't have to agree with everything my colleague says here to see that
"57% of millennials call themselves consistently liberal or mostly liberal. Only 12% call themselves consistently conservative or mostly conservative. This is the most important statistic in American politics right now… long-term disaster for Republicans"
“The most burning question for conservatives should be: What do we have to say to young adults a/b the diverse world they are living in? Instead, conservative intellectuals seem hellbent on taking their 12 percent share among the young & turning it to 3.”
This is why I'm optimistic about the future--the GOP as we know it is not long for the world. It won't disappear, but it WILL change. And is working so as to make it change for the better.
"Unlike the Silent Generation and the boomers, millennials and Gen Z voters live with difference every single day. " And once again #generationX doesn't exist 😅. Thank you 😂
. is right--GOP needs an agenda attractive to diverse Millennials. What if conservatism prioritized the biggest actual economic problem we face: the yawning black-white mobility gap that & I described
People often ask me whether I think right-wing populism is the future. Here’s the main reason it isn’t (the other 2 are urbanization & education, both increasing & both counter-populist). The Coming G.O.P. Apocalypse

Apocalypse now please
Good ideas here for how #Conservatives can win back young voters. I agree that #Progressives have a lot of obvious problems conservatives could take advantage of if they could hone their policies into something other than grabbing more money for the rich
Brooks might just as easily layer “Evangelical” on “conservative,” thank God.
.: Conservatives should be asking: "What do we have to say to young adults and about the diverse world they are living in? Instead, conservative intellectuals seem hellbent on taking their 12% share among the young and turning it to 3."
“If you are a millennial in CA, TX, FL, AZ or NJ, ethnic minorities make up more than half of your age cohort. In just over two decades, America will be a majority-minority country.” A sober GOP warning—and a call for better, thicker pluralism
