A beautiful way to finish my postdoc with the cover of #Nature! Please check out "Neural signatures of #sleep in #zebrafish" here: #stanford #neuroscience
Like us, zebrafish have two main types of sleep: REM sleep and slow-wave sleep. This suggests that the common ancestor of humans and zebrafish had both types of sleep, and thus that these sleep types evolved at least 450 million years ago.
Like us, zebrafish have two main types of sleep: slow-wave sleep and rapid-eye-movement (or REM) sleep. Whenever you nod off and cycle through these stages, you're continuing a vertebrate tradition that goes back at least 450 million years.
