This is the same president who spent years claiming Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. & questioned why the U.S. should accept immigrants from what he called “[email protected]$thole” countries
This language from the President of the United States is racist, ignorant, misogynistic and xenophobic. We cannot become immune to this disgraceful administration or the rotten ideology at its core.
Yet another example of Trump’s ignorance & disdain for the values that truly make America great. His comments that 4 US citizen Members of Congress should “go back” to the countries they came from is further evidence he does not belong in the White House.
I try not to comment on everything this President tweets. Frankly I have better things to do. But it’s incomprehensible that a US president would say this to American citizens. These remarks were disgusting, shameful, and yes, racist.
If your boss said something like Trump did, would you stay silent? "A spokesman for Senator Mitch McConnell... declined to comment on Mr. Trump’s remarks. Representatives for Republican House leaders did not respond to emails seeking comment."
“On Sunday, representatives for Republican House leaders did not respond to emails seeking comment on Mr. Trump’s remarks.”
Fixed headline: Trump Tells Freshman Congresswomen to ‘Go Back’ to the Countries They (Didn’t Come) From
Yesterday morning's comments about my colleagues are wrong, offensive, and totally unacceptable. There is no place for this type of rhetoric anywhere in our country. We must elevate the conversation.
“... Mr. Trump appeared resigned to force 2020 voters to choose between the white, native-born America he and his supporters have romanticized and the diverse and increasingly foreign-born country he is presiding over.” (via ⁦⁦⁩)
Come on, NYT, it’s a racist tweet, full stop. Not something “seized upon” by Democrats as if its racism were a matter of partisan dispute
Maybe Drumpf should go back to where he came from, then?
Trump's call for several US-born members of Congress to "go back" where they came from is of course racism: It's not new. I dug into Trump's history and wrote in mid-2016 that he was racist: What's saddest is the echoing GOP silence
It is pointless and counterproductive to engage when he is objectively stupid and racist, as he is in saying (mostly incorrectly, to boot) that members of Congress born in foreign countries have no right to criticize the US.
A lot of people got mad at this lede because it attributes the phrase "racist trope" to third parties. Reasonable people may differ. Where they may not differ is on "none of whom are white." That's ungrammatical. Should be "none of whom IS white."
When all is done with our repellent and repugnant POTUS, we will need a truth and reconciliation commission to face up to and repair the carnage he has needlessly inflicted on Americans and on democracy itself.
Tell the truth: Why won't any Republican office-holder condemn this forthright expression of bigotry, ignorance, and xenophobia?
