I welcome the Court's judgement. No one in their right mind believed Boris Johnson's reason for shutting down Parliament. I urge the Prime Minister to immediately recall Parliament so we can debate this judgement and decide what happens next.
A huge victory for democracy. All 3 judges in Scotland’s Court of Sessions say proroguing Parliament is unlawful Proud to have been part of this legal action MPs and the courts will continue to hold the Government to account
"Boris Johnson will find himself in an untenable position in Parliament... every member that believes in our constitution would simply say, it's over" Former Tory Dominic Grieve says the PM must resign if he misled the Queen about suspending Parliament
The prorogation is illegal. This is the first test of whether Boris Johnson will obey the law: will he let MPs come back to work? He has misled everyone, including the Queen. Surely there must be consequences?
"I'm calling on Boris Johnson to recall Parliament, immediately" Shadow #Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer says the PM's motive for suspending Parliament "wasn't the one that he said it was", as a Scottish court rules the closure is unlawful
“The more the courts get involved in politics that is of detriment not only to politics but also the courts” Business Minister Kwasi Kwarteng says judges involved with decisions on #Brexit are not biased, but says they are “interfering” #AndrewNeilShow
The judges haven’t just ruled prorogation unlawful - in concluding that the purpose, despite the PM’s denials, was, as revealed by internal documents, to stymie Parliament, they have effectively found that the PM lied to Parliament, an impeachable offence
"If the government had misled the Queen about the reasons for suspending Parliament... it would then be the moment for Mr Johnson to resign" Ex-Tory MP Dominic Grieve says PM's position may be "untenable", as court rules suspension of Parliament unlawful
"The advice given by the government to Her Majesty the Queen to prorogue Parliament... was unlawful" Judges at Scotland's highest civil court give their ruling about Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament
And BOOM. Boris Johnson’s prorogation of Parliament ruled unlawful.
"The PM has closed down our Parliament, gagged our democracy, and prevented our constituents' voices from being heard" Opposition MPs against the suspension of Parliament hold a protest in Westminster, as a Scottish court rules the closure is unlawful
Is going to be fun watching Johnson slowly realise it's UK law he's not a fan of
Boris Johnson is not above the law.
Given how rapidly Johnson unravelled with 4 days of scrutiny We need to be back asking questions
The Court of Session judges said the Court will accordingly make an Order declaring that the Prime Minister's advice to HM the Queen and the prorogation which followed thereon was unlawful and is thus null and of no effect."
"Do the right thing, bring Parliament back from its unlawful prorogation" Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon sends a message to UK PM Boris Johnson, accusing him of "outrageous and reckless" behaviour over the suspension of Parliament
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland's highest court of appeal has ruled that Boris Johnson's shutting down of Parliament is unlawful. The case led by proves the anti-democratic actions by Boris Johnson cannot be accepted.
The PM has broken the law. Getting your own way in Parliament by shutting Parliament down is not legal. May this be only the first such ruling against the conduct of Mr Johnson. Our prosecution case against him continues soon also.
