This story is shocking--the detail that gets me is the woman who went to an auction to buy back her family's quilts after Medicaid took them as repayment for her mother's care.
Homeownership is often the #1 way to escape cyclical poverty that results in Medicaid need. Yet here, Medicaid claims that ownership & becomes part of that cycle
just more evil facts, . but like super evil.
1. Federal law mandates that states recoup certain Medicaid costs from patients after they die. The rule doesn't affect the poorest of the poor (who have no assets), but those Americans who hope to pass a small inheritance on to their kids
