Warren is right that a wealth tax wins majority support among virtually all groups. The one exception (in our polling)? College-educated Republican men.

These results paint a very different picture than past polling (including our own) that finds that large majorities of Democrats (80%+) approve of policies like Medicare for all. Those surveys asked simple yes/now questions, without offering other choices.

Reluctantly I’m now inclined to agree that a constitutional amendment beyond the 16th would be required to render a wealth tax sustainable by today’s Supreme Court — or evening by one not quite as conservative.
That 57% of Republicans approve of a 2% wealth tax on fortunes above $50 million is absolutely remarkable. And tends to confirm my hunch that economic leftism per se (as opposed to concerns about health care details) isn’t a huge 2020 Democratic problem.
