Excellent article in about our new study on the performance of historical climate models by
We trust science, and so should you.
I never did get a good answer on this Climate models have skill, but that skill has apparently degraded over the past ~50 years as models have become more complex and sophisticated:
Climate models dating back to the early 1970s accurately foretold how greenhouse gases would fuel a hotter future, according to a new study.
“Most of the climate models (from 40-50 yrs ago) accurately predicted recent global surface temperatures, which have risen approximately 0.9°C since 1970. For 10 forecasts, there was no statistically sig diff between their output & historic observations.”
Even models from 50 years ago correctly predicted #globalwarming, study says, providing further confidence current ones can be used to guide #energy policy #climate
Even 50-year-old climate models correctly predicted global warming: would we be having at all without these early Hansen simulations - maybe not?

It's OK to doubt the climate models - if you also acknowledge that they have been almost constantly right since at least the 1970s...

Question for climate modelers From Hausfather et al new paper A time series of their calculations of model skill does not show that climate models have improved over 50 years. Shouldn't the models be getting better (more skill)? What do u say this means?
