I wrote, a bit nervously and I hope sensitively, about Jo Swinson’s “biological sex” comments
This is so good. The most important point here is -- it truly demands all caps -- YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE ASININE AND CLEARLY FALSE ARGUMENTS ABOUT HUMAN BIOLOGY TO PROTECT AND ADVOCATE FOR TRANS PEOPLE, AND IT COULD HURT THEM IN THE LONG RUN IF YOU DO.
This is an excellently clear piece, though it shouldn’t really have needed writing. No, we didn’t learn four or five years ago that biological sex is unreal, and no, compassion/egalitarianism don’t require you to pretend that this is the case
. unpacks Jo Swinson's declaration on that biological sex is not a binary thing
Yes, of course biological sex exists
"Sex is about as binary as any biological or natural classification gets" |
Ah, the cooling balm of clear thinking on the "sex is not a binary" thing. Thanks .
Of course biological sex exists, Jo
“The existence of the twilight does not mean we cannot distinguish the day from the night.”
Until now, has been too cowardly to write about trans issues. But Jo Swinson's comments have made him break his silence on sex.
"You can [help people who are facing extreme prejudice and discrimination], without making these at best strange and at worst flat wrong statements about biological sex."
Would Jo Swinson be in a different position, if she'd answered that question differently, ? #GE2019
Politicians need to understand that denying natural kinds isn't going to emancipate anyone.
I also found this piece sensible (it makes a similar point at parts, though without using the word "bimodal")
