So far, my state of Massachusetts has 6,066 confirmed COVID-19 deaths. That's more than all but ten *countries*. (The lack of comprehensive testing makes these comparisons very uncertain.) At least we're trending down.

US has now gone over 10k confirmed deaths, nearing 350k confirmed infections. If deaths keep doubling every ca 3.5 days, we're at 40k in a wk (April 13). OTOH, current UW projection is "only" 82k deaths by August. We'll see.

Collecting and disseminating data. This is not a problem unique to the U.S., but in the U.S., it has primarily been addressed through the NGO & private sector (such as and ) vs public sector. There are exceptions.
