"People believed her. There was no run on the banks." A leader tells her nation the truth - including the fact that millions will get this virus - takes sensible measures. Incredible.
β€œIt was vintage Merkel.” The chancellor, a trained physicist, has given Germans some cold hard facts about the coronavirus in a way no other leader has. Our report: ⁦⁩ ⁦⁩
β€œWe have to understand that many people will be infected,” Chancellor Angela Merkel said of the coronavirus. β€œThe consensus among experts is that 60 to 70 percent of the population will be infected as long as this remains the situation.”
β€œWe must take all necessary measures. It is about protecting older people, those with previous illnesses and vulnerable groups. This is putting our solidarity, common sense and openheartedness for one another to the test. I hope that we will pass it.”

30-50% of global population will get coronavirus β€” 70% in places hardest hit. Social distancing and aggressive measures to test and contain are among factors that make the difference.
That's how severe the #covid19pandemic is: "If need be, Germany will even suspend its cherished balanced budget and borrow more".
Hi and anyone else who understands medicine/science: How do we square predicted infection rates of 30 to 70 percent with reports that the outbreak has peaked in China?
