COVID-19 is less contagious at higher temperatures — good news for lower transmission come summer
An analysis of 100 Chinese cities found that high temperature & humidity are correlated with lower transmission of #COVID-19 & #coronavirus This is consistent with evidence that high temperature & humidity significantly reduce transmission of the flu..
“We find, under a linear regression framework for 100 Chinese cities, high temperature and high relative humidity significantly reduce the transmission of COVID-19“
Research shows that warmer weather DOES reduce the spread of COVID. This is excellent news!
Folks are sharing this chart, from the paper "High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19", & are saying that the claims of the paper are rubbish, because this isn't showing a strong correlation. They're wrong. I'll explain 1/
High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19 reading right now...
We didn't actually know that the spread of Corona virus slows down with warmer weather. But now there is actual proof. This is big. "...we find, ..., high temperature and high relative humidity significantly reduce the transmission of COVID-19..."
"High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19"
Here is a global correlation of cases/day vs temperature. The study accounts for population density and GDP. Authors calculate that an increase of one degree Celsius and 1% humidity reduce the R0 (human spread) by 0.04 & 0.02. Study updated March 18 🌎🌍🌏

Some good news! A new paper with regression analysis of 100 Chinese cities suggests heat and humidity reduce the transmission of #COVID19, so summer may bring relief to U.S. cities.
High temperature and high humidity significantly reduce the transmission of COVID-19 •Every degree Celsius increase in temperature reduces it by 3.8% •Every 1% increase in humidity reduces it by 2.2% Summer and rainy season can be helpful Via SSRN
High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19 by Jingyuan Wang, Ke Tang, Kai Feng, Weifeng Lv
In case you are in need of good news - temperature does impact covid-19 transmission, meaning the arrival of summer in the northern hemisphere will help
I'm impressed at how fast some scientists are generating research papers on Covid 19. I'm not sure about the quality but the speed is sooo much faster than econ See for example
High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19
In the original Covid paper (screenshot on the left), the effect of relative humidity (bottom left) appears to be stronger. But it is *absolute humidity* (bottom right) that really matters
The paper we have been waiting for : an analysis of how temperature and humidity influence COVID-19 transmission rates.
More data: published a few days ago entirely with data from Chinese cities with varying temperatures

Huge news: High Temperature and High Humidity Reduce the Transmission of COVID-19 by Jingyuan Wang, Ke Tang, Kai Feng, Weifeng Lv :: SSRN
"high temperature and high relative humidity significantly reduce the transmission of COVID-19, respectively, even after controlling for population density and GDP per capita of cities" 🛫 might be time to WFH from somewhere within the #ASEAN
This study is maybe more convincing. From what I've seen, I think higher temperatures very likely reduce "R", but that affect is moderate, can certainly be dwarfed by other factors like prevalence of large religious ceremonies.
"One degree Celsius increase in temperature and one percent increase in relative humidity lower R by 0.0383 and 0.0224, respectively."
