Donald Kennedy, a neurobiologist who became the eighth president of Stanford in 1980 and helped set the stage for its transformation into one of the nation’s top research universities during his 12 years in office, died today of COVID-19. He was 88.

via . Kennedy was extremely generous and kind to me when I was a star-eyed undergraduate at Stanford. He was an inspiration for my own teaching and work within the community and I remain grateful.

Huge loss. DK was the prez of , editor-in-chief of , head of . But his biggest accomplishment was falling asleep in a 1:1 meeting with me as an undergrad, then waking up and asking an insightful question.
