Donald Kennedy, a neurobiologist who became the eighth president of Stanford in 1980 and helped set the stage for its transformation into one of the nation’s top research universities during his 12 years in office, died today of COVID-19. He was 88.

We mourn the loss of Donald Kennedy, who served as Stanford University’s eighth president and a senior fellow here at FSI, by courtesy. He was a beloved teacher and leader and will be missed deeply.
So sad to learn of Kennedy’s passing today. He died from COVID-19! Remembering him with great fondness and respect for his excellence in teaching and enormous contributions to Stanford.

Don was a really good man.
Sad to hear of the death of Don Kennedy. Had some interesting conversations with him when Editor of Science
[most amusing was getting into an elevator with him only to find the other occupant was the publisher of Nature...]
RIP Don Kennedy, a nice man who was a fierce defender of scientific integrity.
I really enjoyed my discussions with him. A genuinely thoughtful leader concerned about the environment and science

Huge loss. DK was the prez of @Stanford, editor-in-chief of @ScienceMagazine, head of @US_FDA. But his biggest accomplishment was falling asleep in a 1:1 meeting with me as an undergrad, then waking up and asking an insightful question.
