Saddened by death of Kirk Smith. More than anyone, Kirk documented the deadly risk of indoor air pollution from solid fuels: wood, charcoal, dung. He recognized that switching to propane and butane can save millions of lives - and help save the planet.
"Pollution may start in the kitchen, but it doesn’t stay there." Kirk Smith, environmental scientist at Berkeley who defined the field of household air pollution, and warned about the impact of climate change on public health, dies at 73.

I aspire to be like Dr Kirk Smith when I am done with academia.
Reflecting on his amazing career (see this piece by @kseelye), it is clear that he did amazing research on indoor air pollution. But he did not stop there. He advocated to SOLVE the problem.
He recognized that toxic fumes from stoves used by more than 40 percent of the world’s population were a enormous threat to human health. His mantra, and the advice he gave to his students: “Follow the risk.” @kseelye
