Tucson Police in Turmoil After Death of Latino Man in Custody
The police chief of Tucson, Ariz., offered to step down after the release of a video depicting the death of a handcuffed man. Three officers involved have already resigned.
Good Lord this one is awful. Handcuffed Latino man pled for his “nana” as he was restrained in an impermissible police hold for twelve minutes until he died. Video was concealed until today.
Carlos Ingram Lopez should still be alive today. Resignations won’t bring him back or prevent the deaths of other people in Tucson police custody. The problems with policing are systemic. Divest and reinvest elsewhere, now.

Policing culture and practices operate in a broader context of racialized social disparities that blind or make us immune to human suffering. via
