China expands its amphibious forces in challenge to U.S. beyond Asia
China is launching amphibious assault ships and beefing up its marines. It aims to project power far from home and bolster its ability to invade Taiwan.

It always strikes me as interesting the disconnect between all the ink that is spilled on the vulnerability of the US Navy's large surface ships but very little mention of the liability China is creating by fielding a very similar fleet.
China doesn’t want a direct empire in Asia but it sure looks like it wants to be able to conquer others in region. Hence amphibious fleet:

There's no way one can compete with China, it China's own backyard.
This is such a foolish strategy, tow-to-toe balancing. Chinese navy will always have theatre advantage, as well as numerical strength, next to its shores.
