A public health expert in contact with Trump's COVID task force said that, early on, a member of Jared Kushner's team felt that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national testing plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.
“Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.” They played politics with our lives. Over 154,000 Americans have paid the price.
Jared Kushner is more than incompetent – he’s complicit. He was willing to let Americans die in Democratic-led states because it might help his father-in-law’s politics. In any other administration, Jared Kushner would be investigated and fired.
Over and over again, tidbits keep coming out about how Trump's entire team just did not give a shit about people in blue states dying.
Jaw-dropping and sickening: According to , the White House DID actually come up with a decent national testing plan -- until it was killed for political reasons, among them that the virus was then ravaging blue states
So the White House made the explicit decision that it was a better political call to let people die in the blue states and blame the governors then try to fix the testing situation.
BREAKING: My latest story, a detailed investigation into how the White House secretly drafted, then abandoned, a plan to nationalize America's broken #COVID19 diagnostic testing system. /1
This is a well-reported look into some of what went wrong. It’s also worth noting that treating the coronavirus as a blue state problem was a fairly widespread approach in the West Wing.
This is a damning read. In it, an incompetent Jared Kushner, enabled by the false representations of a corrupt or incompetent Dr. Birx, spent months steering the federal testing response straight into a ditch. And 153,000 Americans have now died.
This is a jaw-dropping read.
I've read this story several times now, and I'm just... how... how could they do this? How isn't this the top story from now until election day? How is it that that these absolute monsters aren't locked away for the rest of their lives?
Imagine the administration had intel on an imminent terrorist attack that would kill over 100,000 people, and chose to do nothing because it was politically easier. That’s what we have here. We need to be talking about accountability. For all of it.
This administration’s entire coronavirus response should be investigated from top to bottom.
Holy hell, this article.
when articles say the Trump administration initially felt it could ignore COVID because it was localized in Democratic cities that should also be read as localized among black and brown Americans disproportionately
The reason we’re all in this mess and will be for the foreseeable future.
So the plan was changed. They would allow the virus to burn through blue cities and states and then blame the deaths on Democrats as a re-election tactic.
NEW: V.F. investigates how the White House planned for an aggressive, coordinated national COVID-19 response that could have brought the pandemic under control. But then it abandoned the plan, in favor of a shambolic 50-state response.
Holy hell. Jared Kushner reportedly abandoned a national testing plan because it was *politically advantageous* to sit back and let blue states be eviscerated by the virus. The corruption and depravity is simply staggering. Kushner needs to resign now.
How many Americans has Jared Kushner killed?
“Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.” Per
Amazing incompetence. Also the cynicism: “The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy"
Kushner refused to implement a national testing strategy for COVID-19 because Trump was more concerned with his political prospects than controlling the virus. I won't mince words: they're responsible for the largest preventable loss of life in US history.
OMG: “Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.” Kushner and Trump w
A reminder that Jared Kushner was only allowed to join the White House after DOJ reversed four legal opinions on nepotism.
Incompetent or Malevolent? This piece outlines a lot of both. The sheer ineptitude and underlying criminality of the US response to the #pandemic, and the continued failure of a national strategy is jarring. Read with caution.
Good morning. We're now into the 8th month of the #COVID19 pandemic. In the United States, we've learned that plans for scale-up of testing were abandoned after being far along in the planning stages. 1/
When you read how Team Trump played politics with testing it makes you wonder how they will handle vaccines?
Jared Kushner killed the Trump administration's NATIONWIDE COVID-19 testing plan because he thought blue states would suffer the most. Then his father-in-law Donald Trump said "Slow the testing down."
Jaw dropping. “Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.”
Great detail in here about how Kushner and Trump lost their gamble to wish away a pandemic while playing politics - and endangering hundreds of millions of people.
Pro death. "'The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy,' said the expert." via
I'm late to this but this really is a stunning piece of investigative work by , full of quietly devastating lines like "The group’s collective lack of relevant experience was far from the only challenge it faced."
This is a devastating read. It is breathtaking how bad our situation is, and how much is due to criminally incompetent & negligent leadership. Americans are dying, losing jobs, seeing their children’s schooling evaporate - why? To own the blue states.
The suggestion that Jared Kushner may have intentionally allowed COVID-19 to run rampant in blue states has direct relevance to #IL06 and answers I still have not received from . Thread:
"...because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically."
When Jared Kushner set out in March to solve the coronavirus testing crisis, his efforts began not with public health experts but with bankers and billionaires. See the problem?

I didn't understand the depth of 's "freaking [testing] debacle" until this, by —invoice for China-made tests (3.5M, $52M) —aborted "National Sentinel Surveillance System" plan by Kushner et al —ignoring our plan

Jared Kushner, Virus-Buster? Hardly.
As if this article didn't already make me want to carve out my eyes with a rusty spoon ... TIL Alex Boehler - CEO of the Int'l Dev Finance Corp and principal villain of the Kodak grift - was Jared's college bud.
Surprise, surprise! Jared Kushner's special coronavirus task force broke a bunch of rules and failed to deliver much of anything! (293/?)
Here is ’s story on Jared Kushner in Vanity Fair. #inners
This article is stunning. What an unmitigated disaster our response to testing has been. Jared's team of non-healthcare guys came up with a plan, but it was scrapped because Trump didn't want more cases and they decided it would only be bad in blue states.
Instead of coordinating a federal response to a devastating pandemic, the Trump administration just let thousands die. Kushner thought it wouldn’t matter because the victims would be black and brown Democrats. Send him to The Hague.
“... because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically.”
My latest story for has officially gone viral. Tune in tonight as I'll be appearing on the following networks to talk more about the piece: at 7:25PM at 8:30PM
It seems that in the midst of everything else, the absolutely evil dystopian story that Jared Kushner decided not to build testing since blue states were getting hit early in order to let them take the blame has already sort of evaporated
well, everything about this is fairly enraging! another blockbuster from , this one about how a plan for a nationally coordinated testing strategy “just went poof into thin air”
Also Trump: * waged a PR campaign against his top public health expert * denied federal funding for contact tracing * waged a PR campaign against his own CDC * refused to do a national response because he thought the virus would hurt Democrats worse
Slow. The. Testing. Down. Please. Killing Americans for political gain. #TrumpKillsTexas #TrumpVirus “because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically” read it here
if the words "Jared Kushner" appear in a story, you know it's about something he screwed up
. is a very good reporter, and this is devastating. Not just in terms of the WH, but really for all of us.
So they dumped it all on the states, while Trump went on discounting the whole thing and claiming it would go away. The incompetence here is astounding.
PLEASE STAND BY: multiple additions to the “Jared Kushner is out of his depth” thread are coming from this story.
I’ll believe that Jared Kushner is growing into his role as a White House staffer when he learns to care about serving the entire nation.
"Slow the testing down please" A devastating account from of the Trump administration's decision not to pursue a federal testing strategy. Their failures have shattered the economy and led to tens of thousands of deaths
How Jared Kushner’s Secret Testing Plan “Went Poof Into Thin Air” | Vanity Fair
I’ll believe that Jared Kushner is growing into his role as a White House staffer when he stops hiring college bros and starts hiring competent people.
It’s hard to read this. There was a plan to massively ramp up testing & tracing. Sounds like it was a decent plan. Trump appears to have pulled the plug because “more testing would only lead to higher case counts and more bad publicity.”

"But no nationally coordinated testing strategy was ever announced. The plan, according to the participant, 'just went poof into thin air.'"
Must-read article of the day by that confirms all of our worst fears: there *was* a national testing plan. The subsequent decision to "slow it down" was calculated cruelty, not mere incompetence (although there's plenty of that, too).
Far right folks floating the idea that Dems had either deployed the virus or were tampering with the management of it to manipulate the election, I thought ohhh shit. And yeah
Jared's Political Triage. In the most deadly sense.
I love to read about what a hapless douchebag Jared Kushner is, but can we talk more about this part?
Looking forward to speaking with on Weekend soon at 5PM to discuss my story on how Jared Kushner/the White House buried a national testing plan that could have helped the U.S. flatten the #COVID19 curve
So it looks like Kushner did actually come through with a team and a plan, but Trump was...too afraid of scaring the stock market to admit the necessity of the nationwide Covid testing regime?
This VF exposé of Kushner's failed testing program buries the lede: the existing testing system is on the verge of collapse.
If true, how’s this not a crime against humanity, exactly?

“When ⁦⁩ reached out to the federal government for help, she got an unmistakable message back: America’s fifth-largest city was on its own. ‘We didn’t have a sufficient number of cases to warrant’.”
There is a lot of disgusting (but predictable and semi-known) occurrences shown in this reporting. But the f’ed up part is that no one will be going to jail for letting people die because they believed it would play well politically.
Impressive reporting from on White House diagnostics efforts.
I’ll believe that Jared Kushner is growing into his role as a White House staffer when he learns how to do procurement better.
“Without systematic testing, ‘We might as well put duct tape over our eyes, cotton in our ears, and hide under the bed’”
This is what our vile, inhumane, authoritarian rulers were looking at when they decided to let it burn for a while. The deaths ravaged "their states" because those were, no offense, the most desirable places to live and travel to. (On the politics, see: )
1/2 This article is not just a Trump indictment. It demonstrates in such a crystal clear way the devastation of electing/appointing someone who is purely self-interested and who recognizes business expertise as the only worthwhile expertise.
Speaking as a health care procurement researcher, I'm at a loss for words
The Vanity Fair article on Kushner and the Federal coronavirus-plan-that-wasn't sheds more heat than light. Its most damning accusation is poorly-sourced.
“We know what has to be done...ubiquitous testing tied to broad and effective contact tracing,” until a vaccine can be widely administered, Shah said. Without that, the US faces “rebound epidemic” highly consequential, in a really deleterious way.
just wow. How Jared Kushner’s Secret Testing Plan “Went Poof Into Thin Air” via
Trump, by way of Jared, tanked our national testing program so badly that if you focused grouped the details people wouldn’t be mad because they wouldn’t believe you
Great reporting on how the is doing more to scale up COVID testing than the Trump administration. Zooming out, it’s a case study on why foundations should focus on strengthening democracy rather than supplanting government responsibility.
We knew testing was critical back in March. This article makes a convincing, though thinly sourced, argument that putting testing responsibility on the states, which at that time were mostly Democrat strongholds, was a political decision.
This article is infuriating from beginning to end. At some point I hope we can calculate how many Americans died and how big of an economic cost we suffered because of this single, myopic, and arrogant decision.
Experts are now warning that the U.S. testing system is on the brink of collapse. “We are at a very bad moment here ...We are about to lose visibility on this monster and it’s going to rampage through our whole country. This is a massive emergency.”
