NEW STUDY: The climate crisis is causing ocean heat waves that have led to the deaths of marine creatures like sea lions and have created toxic algae blooms.
If we continue business-as-usual, these heat waves will only get worse.
Remember the blob, the huge mass of warm water that developed off western North America, with devastating effects on marine life? Climate change may eventually make the blob permanent, scientists say.
No surprise that global warming is warming the oceans, causing ocean heat extremes and impacting life in the oceans more and more. Clear signs of a worsening crisis.
Ocean Heat Waves Are Directly Linked to Climate Change:
The “blob” of hotter ocean water that killed sea lions and other marine life in 2014 and 2015 may become permanent.

Last year, I went diving in CA to see impacts of marine heat waves. What had once been a magnificent kelp forest, full of life, was a barren desert of rocks and purple sea urchins.
Climate change was not a factor in this transformation. It was the cause.
