Revealed: 97% of UK offshore marine parks subject to destructive fishing
“More than 97% of #British marine protected areas, created to safeguard ocean habitats, are being dredged and bottom trawled, according to data shared with the Guardian.
“MPAs are highly ineffective. They are fake, they are paper parks. There’s a massive problem here and the government needs to address it," says Prof Callum Roberts.
Like our national parks on land, our "marine parks" are a total farce - in conservation terms, no more than lines drawn on the map. Destruction proceeds there unhindered.
