The order would have mandated that both passengers and employees wear face coverings on planes, trains, buses and subways and in airports, stations and depots.
Breaking NYT: The CDC drafted a sweeping order last month requiring all passengers and employees to wear masks on all forms of public and commercial transportation in the U.S., but it was blocked by the White House, according to federal health officials.
Misinforming the public, blocking testing, and now preventing the CDC from requiring masks—if the White House wanted to inflict the worst damage possible from the COVID pandemic I don't know what they'd do any differently from what they are already doing.

What possible reason could White House have for doing this? More than 57,000 new US cases yesterday, and on the rise. CDC says we should all wear masks in transit, but WH blocks it. More people will get COVID in transit around country because of this. 1/x
BREAKING—White House blocked CDC from mandating masks on public transportation—order would have mandated that both passengers & employees wear face coverings on planes, trains, buses & subways & in airports, stations. Reckless endangerment. #COVID19 #CDC
Great work @BySheilaKaplan to bring to light this scandalous news. @CDCgov, using it’s quarantine powers, was going to require masks on public conveyances nationally. The mask-averse, now #Covid19-riven White House blocked it.
100% true. @nytimes Imagine me sitting in these task force discussions thinking about my father, a life long truck driver & other transportation workers, etc. Btw- the Airlines asked us to back them on this one. The White House politicals said no.

After all we have learned about how COVID19 is transmitted & who is most vulnerable, why would White House block CDC from requiring masks on public transportation? This is hard to understand. For now anyone using public transportation should wear a mask.
#SaturdayMorning Reading: #COVID19: “I think masks are the most powerful weapon we have to confront Covid and we all need to embrace masks and set the example for each other..." White House Blocked #CDC From Requiring Masks on Public Transportation
Given that the White House is a #COVID19 #hotspot you would think that they would listen to @CDCgov on #mask policy. Transportation workers deserve a safe workplace; and travelers deserve safe planes, trains, buses and subways. @NYTimes
The story is not surprising. What shocks me is that no one @cdcgov leaked the story earlier. There must have been many with direct or indirect knowledge of the draft.

And while they're at it, they've decided to remove fences around power stations and legalized drunk driving. Hey, we're a free country!

Science is real and masks save lives. Period. This administration must be held accountable for the sickness and death it has caused the working people of America.
“The thwarting of the mask rule is the latest in a number of CDC actions stalled or changed by the White House...Political appointees at the White House and HHS have been involved in rewriting the agency’s guidelines...bypassing the agency’s scientists.”
SCOOP: The White House is said to have blocked a C.D.C. effort to require face coverings on airplanes, trains, buses and in travel hubs.
by the amazing @BySheilaKaplan
It's not just that Trump had no plan to deal with a lethal pandemic. He snd his administration blocked every effort by others to put basic protections in place.
And >200,000 Americans are dead.
It’s breath taking to repeatedly remember how much this administration doesn’t care for human life. This #maskmandate would have likely had a big impact on #COVID19 transmission 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤬🤬 @CDCgov come on!
White House Blocked C.D.C. From Requiring Masks on Public Transportation nytimes.com/2020/10/09/hea… To be clear, @CDCgov can't mandate masks purely w/in a single state. But it should absolutely strongly rec masks & states should require it on public transport. That's supported by PH
