Incredible stuff from inside the New York Post's newsroom as the bosses rammed a story through on Rudy's sayso, and over reporters' objections
NEW: A reporter on the New York Post’s Hunter Biden story refused to attach his byline to it, sources say, as the tabloid’s staff question the article’s credibility
Pondering which paragraph is more incredible. The lead, where we learn why the reporter who wrote the NY Post story took his byline off; or the one where Giuliani says he chose the Post because another paper might have wasted time fact checking.
Apparently even most reporters at the refused to add their bylines to the story. They had to settle for a former hannity booker on staff who’d never bylined a piece before. The other byline they added without the reporter knowing apparently.
NYT: “The New York Post’s front-page article about Hunter Biden on Wednesday was written mostly by a staff reporter who refused to put his name on it, two Post employees said.”
In an effort to legitimize their reporting on Hunter Biden’s email, the NY Post asked two veteran reporters to put their names on the story, per NYT. They refused. A 3rd, whose name appears on the stories, didn’t learn she’d be on until it published.
This is going to be a tricky Pulitzer nomination.
This is pretty damning. Bannon & Giuliani met with NY Post editors to drop their Hunter Biden story. Veteran reporters refused to allow their name to be attached to it because they did not think the story held up.
The "But Hunter Biden's e-mails!" story seems like it's more designed to boost the morale of the Trumpiest part of the pro-Trump corners of the media than to actually convince any swing voters of anything.
Rudy Giuliani saying the ⁦⁩ is the only newspaper in the US that would run his bizarre story and not fact-check it perhaps is not the resounding endorsement for paper he thinks it is.
Rudy Giuliani literally said he chose the Post to avoid regular journalistic fact checking.
Wow! The reporter who wrote most of the NY Post story about Hunter Biden was so skeptical of it that he refused to allow his byline on it. That is the reddest of red flags.
Reporter on ⁦⁩ story on Hunter Biden emails refused to put his name on it because of doubts about its credibility. Murdoch paper published regardless. ⁦⁩ with the scoop
"Ms. Fonrouge had little to do with the reporting or writing of the article...She learned that her byline was on the story only after it was published...."
Good piece, and a reminder that a lot of the people who choose to spend their lives working for Rupert Murdoch could choose not to.
at the point when you don't want your byline near a story you're writing, you would think that would spark a moment of reflection
BREAKING: the NY Post propaganda piece attacking Hunter Biden and amplified by ’s own was so poorly sourced those who worked on the story refused to put their bylines on it.
Wow, the “sources” for the NY post story were Rudy and Steve “out on bail” Bannon.
Just a brutal anti-endorsement of a news outlet from Rudy
Big scoop from : "The New York Post’s front-page article about Hunter Biden on Wednesday was written mostly by a staff reporter who refused to put his name on it, two Post employees said."
"The New York Post’s front-page article about Hunter Biden on Wednesday was written mostly by a staff reporter who refused to put his name on it..."
“As deadline approached, editors pressed staff members to add their bylines to the story.” Some refused.
The only writer who knowingly had their byline on t he Post/Hunter Biden report was a former associate of Bannon Stone, and Hannity
"Bruce Golding, a reporter at the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid since 2007, did not allow his byline to be used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility...As deadline approached, editors pressed staff members to add their bylines to the story"
New York Post Published Hunter Biden Report Amid Newsroom Doubts -- so people are quitting in protest and editors are getting fired??
Even a reporter at the NY Post who WROTE the Hunter Biden smear has questions about the credibility of the source materials! But yeah keep lecturing the Biden campaign for being frustrated about this bullshit.
Lol, Giuliani straight-up saying he chose to go to the New York Post because he knew they wouldn't bother to check if it was true.
Naturally, Rudy wouldn't want a news organization to conduct actual journalism on this sketchy material, would he?
Anyone who has ever worked at the Post knows exactly how this story played out and gets PTSD just thinking about it
Bruce Golding, a reporter at the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid since 2007, did not allow his byline to be used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility
New: New York Post Published Hunter Biden Report Amid Newsroom Doubts Some reporters withheld their bylines and questioned the credibility of an article that made the tabloid’s front page on Wednesday. reports
“Bruce Golding, a reporter at the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid since 2007, did not allow his byline to be used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility.”
The New York Post’s front-page article about Hunter Biden was written mostly by a staff reporter who refused to put his name on it. Bruce Golding did not allow his byline to be used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility.
When a reporter says things like, I’m not sure this is true and I don’t want my name on it, most news operations would kill the story right there. Heck, most wouldn’t ever get that far. This is in no way, shape or form how a real newsroom works.
5. Mr. Giuliani said he chose The Post because “either nobody else would take it, or if they took it, they would spend all the time they could to try to contradict it before they put it out.”
"She learned that her byline was on the story only after it was published, the people said."
Major red flags: -The reporter who did most of the writing refused to put his byline on it over credibility concerns. -The two bylines which did end up on it: an editor who recently joined the Post from Hannity, and a reporter who knew little about it.
“Bruce Golding, a reporter at the Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid since 2007, did not allow his byline to be used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility, the two Post employees said.”
The reporter who wrote Wednesday’s Hunter Biden story for the NYPost didn’t want his name on it.
The NY Post’s big article about Hunter Biden was written mostly by a staff reporter who refused to put his name on it, 2 Post employees said. He did not allow his byline used because he had concerns over the article’s credibility. By
“She learned that her byline was on the story only after it was published”?!?!?!
🚨 🚨 Australian tabloid legend Col Allen playing a lead role in the Hunter Biden emails story via ⁦
One of the Post’s two bylined reporters on the piece had never had a story in the paper before. She had been a producer for Hannity at Fox. Her social media shows her posing with Trump insiders like Huckabee Sanders.
When you make a media reporter, you get stories like this
Props also to and , who were first to publish. It's not a great feeling to get beaten by 30 minutes after spending 30+ hours reporting something out over the weekend, but the most important thing is that the truth comes out.
I'd say this is just like the Dan Rather/TX National Guard story from 2004, but in that case it appears Rather blew past the usual guardrails because he desperately wanted to believe it was real, while the NYPost editors knew exactly what they were doing.
All this is totally normal journalistic practice, nothing to see here
By the way, no doubt in my mind that Col Allan, who pushed for publication, would have been consulting with and speaking for Rupert Murdoch.
“Headlined BIDEN SECRET E-MAILS, the article appeared Wednesday with two bylines: Emma-Jo Morris...& Gabrielle Fonrouge. Ms. Morris did not have a bylined article in The Post before Wednesday...Ms. Fonrouge had little to do with the reporting or writing.”
OH. "The New York Post’s front-page article about Hunter Biden on Wednesday was written mostly by a staff reporter who refused to put his name on it, two Post employees said."
This is interesting, and contributes to my general wariness about the Hunter Biden story, but it's a bit odd that mainstream reporters are working harder to discredit a rival paper than to investigate the actual allegations.
LOL, even New York Post staffers thought the Hunter Biden article shouldn't be published and didn't want their names on it
NYPost editors pressed staff members to add their bylines to the Hunter Biden story. At least two refused. Another who was ultimately credited for it learned that her byline was on the story only after it was published.
The runs a Biden emails story: Caution remains that foreign intel could seed computer w/ real pictures but fake/doctored emails. Remember #Rathergate. Key Q: Did use office to enrich family or, post-VP years, deal with CCP or its fronts?
