The majority of Americans will need to take the coming COVID-19 vaccine. Here’s how to persuade those who won’t want to.
Olga Khazan🗞️My latest: A vaccine is coming, but a lot of people have said they won't take it.
If the coronavirus vaccine is 75 percent effective, roughly two-thirds of the population would need to be vaccinated.
As the weather gets colder, many Americans have no idea whether it’s risky to hang out with other people inside. That’s a big problem.
Olga Khazan🚨 I have a big new piece out today about how to tell if it's safe to socialize indoors. And more importantly, that this is something government officials should be doing a better job of making us aware of
With public schools closed, at least 15 states have no free child-care options for essential workers.
Olga Khazan🚨 new from me and @AdamHSays . Schools are closed, and that was a major source of free child care for people who can't work remotely. We emailed every state to see what free options they have to replace it. 15 said nothing.
Olga KhazanImportant thing here: It's not just that some people literally don't have the cables that would connect them to the internet. Lots of people also can't afford the internet that runs outside their door. The govt could fix both, but it hasn't.
Olga KhazanHey, did you know that at least 19 million Americans don't have a fast internet connection at home?
It might be the answer to America’s school-reopening problem.
Olga KhazanI would have put more about the weather thing if I had realized that was peoples' main sticking point. Again:
1) shade structures
2) having school when it's most climactically appropriate for your region
3) the option to go virtual for bad weather
Olga Khazan🚨I wrote about outdoor school! It might be the answer to our school-reopening problems, so why isn't it happening on a broader scale?
